NPFL: Finidi George Insists Rivers United Title Ambition Intact Despite 1–0 Loss to Bayelsa United
Rivers United F.C. head coach Finidi George has played down concerns following his side’s 1–0 defeat to Bayelsa United F.C. in their 2025/2026 Matchday 28 clash at the Samson Siasia Stadium.
The narrow loss saw Rivers United slip to second place on the Nigeria Premier Football League table with 46 points, though they still have three games in hand, a crucial advantage as the title race intensifies.
Despite suffering a fourth consecutive defeat to Bayelsa United across two seasons, Finidi remained defiant, insisting the setback would not derail the Pride of Rivers’ quest for the league crown. Speaking after the game, as quoted on CompleteSports.
“If losing to Bayelsa United will give us the league title, I’ll accept it,” Finidi responded rhetorically.
“Let’s lose to Bayelsa United and win the league. I’m not that worried about losing to Bayelsa United twice last season and twice this season.
“We know the purpose of our campaign this season is to win the league. It’s quite unfortunate that we lost today.”
