NPFL: Finidi George Admits Rivers United Struggled Despite Narrow Win Over Wikki Tourists
Rivers United technical adviser, Finidi George, has acknowledged that his team endured a tough outing despite edging past Wikki Tourists in their Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday 17 fixture.
The Pride of Rivers secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, on Monday, thanks to a decisive strike from Taofeek Otaniyi. However, the result did not fully reflect the nature of the contest, which was tense, scrappy, and lacking sustained control from either side.
Although the Pride of Rivers managed to protect their slim advantage until the final whistle, their overall performance left much to be desired. The hosts found it difficult to build momentum, and the game lacked fluency, with both teams failing to establish prolonged periods of control.
Finidi, speaking after the match, admitted that the performance did not meet the standards expected, particularly following their strong display in the previous fixture.
“I can’t really see where the game was moving to, it was off and on throughout,” Finidi stated in a post-match interview.
“We are quite happy with the victory but the game proper, we can’t actually see where we controlled the game.
“After the impressive performance against Plateau United, coming here back home we struggled against Wikki Tourists.”
