Amid criticism from players, FIFA is making every effort to convince them to take part in the expanded Club World Cup. FIFA president Gianni Infantino has even gone as far as comparing it to the national team World Cup.

Details: Infantino revealed that he recently spoke with Manchester City stars Erling Haaland and Manuel Akanji, suggesting that while they may not be able to win a World Cup with their national teams, they now have a chance to do so at the club level.

Quote: “I recently spoke with Haaland and Akanji, who play for Man City. They are great footballers, and now they have a chance to win the World Cup—not with their national teams, but with their clubs. It’s still a World Cup, and it will be a World Cup for their clubs, for them personally, and also for their countries,” Infantino stated during a speech at the Italian federation’s meeting.

Reminder: The official match ball for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup was recently unveiled.
