Novak Djokovic claims he was poisoned in Melbourne before the 2022 Australian Open
Tennis star Novak Djokovic has revealed that he was poisoned by food he ate in Melbourne during the controversy surrounding his entry ban to Australia before the 2022 Australian Open. Djokovic shared this shocking revelation in an interview with GQ magazine.

The Serbian player was detained in a Melbourne hotel after his visa was canceled for violating Australia’s entry rules. At the time, the country had strict COVID-19 protocols, and Djokovic had refused to get vaccinated.
Djokovic explained that after his time in Australia, he began experiencing flu-like symptoms and felt very unwell. Upon returning to Europe, he sought medical attention several times.
“I realised that in that hotel in Melbourne I was fed with some food that poisoned me. I had some discoveries when I came back to Serbia. I never told this to anybody publicly, but discoveries that I was, I had a really high level of heavy metal. Heavy metal. I had the lead, very high level of lead and mercury,” Djokovic stated.
Despite the incident, the tennis star emphasized that he holds no grudges against Australia and is preparing to compete in the 2025 Australian Open.
