On Monday, the English Premier League penalised Nottingham Forrest for failing to comply with financial rules to the tune of pproximately 40 million euros by dropping four points in the standings, sending the Foresters into the relegation zone. But, as it became known, that might not have happened.

On the last day of the last financial year, i.e. 30 June 2023, Atlético Madrid offered 50 million euros for young winger Brennan Johnson, but Nottingham wanted 15 million more, which put an end to the move.

So, according to Mundo Deportivo, if the Foresters had agreed to Atlético's offer, all the club's financial problems would have been solved and the current relegation would not have happened.

In the current situation, Nottingham will not even be helped by the fact that the club sold Johnson for a higher price, namely for 55 million euros to Tottenham, as this move happened after the close of the financial year.
