Not so fast! Romano pours cold water on Barcelona's defensive transfer
The transfer soap opera around Castello Lukeba has just received a cold shower.
Details: Renowned insider Fabrizio Romano reports that there is nothing advanced or concrete regarding Castello Lukeba's move to Barcelona, despite recent reports. The RB Leipzig centre-back has indeed been offered to Barça, but no talks between the parties have taken place.
In recent days, the Catalan media claimed that Barcelona had made the 23-year-old Frenchman their priority target for the centre-back position after Ronald Araujo's loan move to Liverpool with a €55 million buy option. However, the reality is different: Hansi Flick is content with his current defensive options, where Pau Cubarsí, Gerard Martin, Andreas Christensen, Eric Garcia and Jules Koundé can all cover the position. Lukeba, whose contract with Leipzig runs until 2029 and includes a €90 million release clause, is also being monitored by Arsenal and Manchester United.
So the Saxon club is in no hurry to part with one of its leaders, and the Catalans are in no rush to make a signing in this position. It's worth noting that Transfermarkt values Lukeba at €50 million, and last season the Frenchman made 26 Bundesliga appearances for Leipzig, scoring one goal.
