The defeat in last year's Copa América semifinal against Colombia was a painful blow for Uruguay—not just on the scoreboard, but also due to the loss of five key players. Now, the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne has delivered its final verdict on the matter.

Details: The appeals body upheld the sanctions not only for Núñez, as previously reported, but also for Ronald Araújo, José María Giménez, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Matías Olivera. The collective appeal lodged by the players and the Uruguayan federation against CONMEBOL was rejected, meaning all punishments remain in force.

Olivera, Araújo, Bentancur, and Giménez have already served their suspensions but are still required to pay fines. The federation itself has also been slapped with a $20,000 penalty. As for Núñez, he must now serve a five-match suspension, which had been put on hold pending the case review. He has already missed two games under this ban.

Reminder: The players were suspended following a brawl in the match against Colombia. CAS dismissed the argument that the footballers acted in self-defense, citing their use of excessive force.
