Liverpool’s forward will serve the remaining three matches of his five-match international suspension after CAS rejected his appeal.

Details: Darwin Núñez is set to miss three more games for the Uruguay national team, completing the five-match ban imposed by CONMEBOL for his involvement in an altercation with fans following the 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Copa América semi-final in July 2024.

He has also been fined £15,145 ($20,000). After serving two matches, the Court of Arbitration for Sport temporarily suspended the sanction in October 2024 pending appeal review.

However, the appeal has now been rejected. Núñez’s absence will impact Uruguay’s performance in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Quote: “There were no police, and we had to protect our families,” said Uruguay captain José María Giménez.

“It was all because of two or three people who overdid it and don’t know how to drink.”

Reminder: Núñez was handed a five-match ban for his involvement in a brawl with fans and players after the Copa América semi-final.
