Rodri won the 2024 Ballon d'Or, a decision that left Real Madrid discontented, leading to their choice not to attend the award ceremony. However, this decision hasn’t pleased everyone on the team.
Details: The primary decision was made by president Florentino Pérez, but according to Relevo, some players would have preferred to be present. Certain players had sponsorship commitments tied to the ceremony, and others feared it could have been their only chance to attend a Ballon d'Or event.
For midfielder Arda Güler, it would have been his first time, as he placed second in the voting for the Kopa Trophy. Goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, who finished third in the Lev Yashin Award contest, might also miss the opportunity to attend again.
Still, the players understand Pérez’s reasoning, as it’s challenging not to appear self-centered in light of the outcome.
Reminder: We’ve prepared information on how Vinicius and other Real Madrid players reacted to Rodri’s Ballon d'Or win.
