Not a good sign! Manchester United's top transfer target suffers injury

Details: Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, who has been on Manchester United's radar, has sustained ankle ligament damage during the Seagulls' preseason preparations. According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the Cameroonian's participation in the opening matches of the 2026/27 season is now in serious doubt, with a spell on the sidelines expected. However, the club remains hopeful that the injury will not be a long-term setback.

Baleba already missed Brighton's friendly against Strasbourg on Saturday (4-3). The injury is a major blow not only to Brighton but also to transfer plans: Manchester United have long viewed the 22-year-old Cameroonian as a key reinforcement for their midfield. According to Fabrizio Romano, the player himself remained keen on a move to Old Trafford after last summer’s collapsed deal. Now, the Red Devils are unlikely to risk paying big money for an injured player.

Last season, Baleba made 31 Premier League appearances for Brighton, marking his third year on the south coast since joining from Lille in 2023.
