Norwegian biathlete Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold experienced heart issues during one of the races at the start of the biathlon season, leading to a necessary surgery.

Details: Tandrevold announced on her Instagram that she had undergone heart surgery and shared updates about her condition and future plans.

Quote: “As many of you might have guessed, I experienced arrhythmia again in December. So I decided to share: on Wednesday, I underwent a successful heart surgery (ablation) for AVNRT – a type of arrhythmia where an extra electrical pathway in the heart creates a loop of extremely rapid pulse,” Tandrevold explained.

She noted that this condition can cause sudden episodes of a racing heartbeat, dizziness, or difficulty breathing. While not dangerous, it is very uncomfortable. Additionally, it is not necessarily triggered by intense training or excessive physical strain, as AVNRT is considered congenital.

Quote: “In most cases, physical activity is more of a remedy for health than the opposite. I hope to return to competition and become an inspiration for anyone who needs it. Thank you so much for all the support and kind messages you’ve sent me. I truly appreciate it and can’t wait to return to the World Cup in January,” Tandrevold added.

It appears the Norwegian biathlete is determined to return to biathlon and will soon resume training and competing.

Reminder: During the first stage of the season, Julia Simon also faced health issues, struggling to reach the finish line while clutching her leg and collapsing onto the snow. After the race, Simon revealed that she completed the course despite severe pain in her leg.
