Sunderland's big summer deal has just hit a wall.

Details: According to renowned insider Fabrizio Romano, Dayann Methalie has returned to France after his medical at Sunderland, as he does not have the green light from the club's staff.

Romano reports that Methalie will now undergo extra tests, while Toulouse and Sunderland are set to make a decision soon. The transfer, previously agreed at 28 million euros plus 2 million euros in add-ons, is currently in jeopardy.

The 20-year-old left-back had travelled to England after the clubs struck a verbal agreement, with Sunderland preparing to add the France Under-21 international to their squad before the new Premier League campaign.

It is worth noting that last season the French left-back made 28 Ligue 1 appearances for Toulouse, scoring twice in his final three games. According to Transfermarkt, the player's value stands at 18 million euros. He has also earned 4 caps and scored 2 goals for France U21.

Reminder: Ivorian Abdoul Ouattara leaves Strasbourg for the Premier League.
