Niko Kovac could take charge of Manchester United if Carrick fails
Manchester United's management sees Kovac as a strong candidate for the head coach position.
Details: According to renowned and reputable journalist Florian Plettenberg on his social media page X, Manchester United has added 54-year-old Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovac to their shortlist of candidates for the head coach role, should Michael Carrick be dismissed.
It is reported that, in addition to Manchester United, Chelsea were also in pursuit of Kovac following Maresca's departure, as was Tottenham, but the Croatian opted to remain in Dortmund.
Niko Kovac took charge of Borussia Dortmund in February 2025. Since then, Kovac has overseen 52 matches at the helm of the Black and Yellows, recording 31 wins, 12 draws, and 9 defeats.
Previously, Niko Kovac managed the Croatian national team, Eintracht, Bayern, Monaco, and Wolfsburg.
Kovac's current contract with Borussia Dortmund runs until 2027.
