Nigeria Plans Friendly Against Ghana Ahead of Crucial World Cup Qualifier
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is finalizing plans to arrange a friendly match between the Super Eagles and Ghana’s Black Stars in June. This match is intended as a key warm-up ahead of Nigeria’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa in September.
Jollof Derby Returns
The Super Eagles defeated Ghana 2-1 in their most recent encounter, which was held in Morocco in March 2024. Both teams will have an additional chance to hone their squads for the forthcoming match, which is scheduled to take place in Europe.
Super Eagles’ Preparation Strategy
Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle had initially hoped to face Zambia, a team with a playing style similar to South Africa’s Bafana Bafana. However, the NFF opted for Ghana as a high-profile African opponent.
Nigeria will travel to South Africa on September 7 for their vital World Cup qualifier, as they continue their quest to secure a spot in the tournament hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Additional Friendly Against Russia
The NFF has already secured a friendly match against Russia during the June international break, further strengthening Nigeria’s preparations for the World Cup qualifiers.
