NFPL: Sporting Lagos Coach Jeffrey Buter Is Happy with Win Over Bendel Insurance but Demands a Better Performance
Sporting Lagos head coach Jeffrey Buter was pleased with his side's 2-1 win over Bendel Insurance but admitted the performance, especially in the second half, was not up to standard.
Sporting Lagos came from behind to claim all three points in their NPFL Matchday 8 encounter. After Kayode Oke put Bendel Insurance ahead early, Victor Samuel equalised before Gafar Olaniyan completed the comeback to seal an important home victory.
Reflecting on the game, Buter said his team lost control after the break and had to defend too much.
"Yeah, I'm really happy with the victory, not so happy with the performance, especially in the second half. We turned a game that we had control of into a game where we had to defend a lot. But again, some days are like that when it's not always going to be beautiful. What we needed today is the maximum points, and I'm really happy we got them," he said.
The coach believes the win will boost belief among both players and fans.
"I think it's a big lift, not just for the players, but also for the fans that came to watch the match. They have the confidence that we are not only going to drop points, but we are going to win games at home, and the players can also believe that, okay, this is our home and we can make the maximum of it. So, we are really happy with the momentum this is going to give us," he added.
Buter also praised his squad for their collective effort.
"I'm happy with my players because they all contributed to the success of this game, and we will keep working and see how we can help every player to be better."
Looking ahead to Saturday's fixture, he expects another tough test but insists his side will be ready.
