Newcastle have done a beautiful thing to their EFL Cup rival
Intense rains in London have left their mark on football too. So, the match between local Wimbledon and Newcastle in the third round of the EFL Cup was supposed to be held on 25 September, however, on this date it will not be held, and the game itself was moved to the field of ‘forty’, which marked another beautiful gesture.
The Cherry Red Records Stadium, which is hosting the Wimbledon matches, has been significantly damaged by heavy rain and the club has launched a fundraiser to recoup the damage and restore the playing surface.
The amount is £50,000 and Newcastle have joined the collection, with FourFourTwo reporting that they have donated £15,000 to the London club's account. In addition to the one-off payment, the Magpies will be obliged to transfer 45 per cent of the revenue from their already home match against Wimbledon to their rival.
