Newcastle are in talks over the transfer of an England national team defender

Central defender Marc Guéhi of Crystal Palace and the England national team remains a sought-after target for wealthier English clubs.

According to David Ornstein, Newcastle has initiated official negotiations for the transfer of the 24-year-old player. Crystal Palace is asking £65 million for their star defender, and Newcastle's offer is very close to this amount.

Guéhi is open to joining Newcastle but will not engage in any negotiations until the clubs reach an agreement.

In his three seasons at Crystal Palace, Guéhi has played 111 matches across all competitions. At the European Championship, he was a key defender for the England national team, admirably filling in for the injured Harry Maguire.

This summer, Crystal Palace already sold their key forward Michael Olise to Bayern Munich and replaced him with Ismaïla Sarr from Marseille.
