Former Newcastle player Paul Watson and Hibernian staff member Tracy Smith have launched an initiative aimed at supporting the wives and girlfriends of footballers, reports the Daily Star. The program is designed to help them cope with the challenges of being in relationships with football players.

The service is being introduced as part of the mission of the charity Player Care and Support Services. It will include short retreats where participants can relax and recharge.

The initiative will begin in March, with eight footballers' partners set to attend a two-day retreat at an undisclosed location.

"A player’s partner will experience various highs and lows and will have to make many sacrifices along the way and sometimes that means being away from family and friends. When a club on-boards a new player they are also on-boarding their partner/family but this isn’t always the case. We want to ensure that all players’ wives and partners have a safe and comfortable space to come together with those who completely understand the challenges and pressures experienced in the football world," the organization’s website states.
