Nervous! Asanele Velebayi is feeling the nerves ahead of his potential debut game in a Caf competition
Asanele Velebayi admitted nerves ahead of his potential debut in a Caf Confederation Cup match for Kaizer Chiefs today but also revealed he will depend on his experienced team-mates.
"To be honest, personally, I’m a little bit nervous, but we have players who have experienced playing at this level before, whom I trust to share their knowledge of what to expect,” the former Cape Town Spurs man told the Chiefs website.
Velebayi is a novice to continental football having joined Chiefs from former National First Division side Cape Town Spurs who did not play international football while the player was still playing there.
As much as it’s something he is not accustomed to, Velebayi said it’s a big occasion for him.
“Obviously, it’s a huge moment for me to be travelling in Africa, to Egypt, for the first time," he said as they face Egyptian side Al Masry later today.
"We have watched some of the Egyptian league as part of our preparation so I am expecting a difficult game, but I am really looking forward to the challenge.
"For us, the first priority is not to concede any goals. That’s not to say we won’t try to win, but keeping it tight at the back puts us in a better position to achieve a positive result."
The game starts at 6pm at Suez Stadium.
