Nedbank Cup Quarterfinals Set as Sundowns Overcome Mpheni and Top Teams Advance

The 2025 Nedbank Cup quarterfinals are taking form, with Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, and Orlando Pirates all sealing their spots. Sundowns overcame third-tier team Mpheni Home Defenders 2-0 on Sunday, despite playing with 10 men for the majority of the second half.
Matthews and Aubaas Secure Sundowns’ Win
Tashreeq Matthews gave Sundowns a head start in the eighth minute with a deft backheel finish. After a solid corner routine, Bathusi Aubaas extended the lead in the 27th minute.
After being given a second yellow card in the 48th minute, Matthews was sent off, leaving Sundowns to defend their lead with ten men. Sundowns managed to cling on for the win because Mpheni Home Defenders created opportunities but were unable to take advantage of them.
