Miguel Cardoso, the coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, has given an explanation for Malibongwe Khoza's absence from the team's last two games.

The 20-year-old Khoza started the season strong, even benching a few Bafana Bafana players. He did not, however, play in Sundowns' victories over the Orlando Pirates and TS Galaxy.

Speaking to iDiski Times, Cardoso said Khoza’s absence was due to squad rotation and not poor form.

“Mali has been having a wonderful season. It’s his first professional season, and he’s become very important. We trust him a lot,” Cardoso said.

“We know he’s an asset, but we must protect him in certain moments. The competition in his position is tough.”

Khoza competes with Grant Kekana, Mothobi Mvala, Mosa Lebusa, and Lucas Suarez. The arrival of Keanu Cupido has added more competition.

Cardoso assured fans that Khoza will return. “He will get back into the team naturally. We need rotation, and he will be important for the club and South African football.”

Sundowns will face Mpheni Home Defenders in the Nedbank Cup last 16. Cardoso may rotate his squad again as they aim to bounce back.
