Napoli and Roma Eye Agustín Giay After His Strong Club World Cup With Palmeiras
Agustín Giay’s stock is on the rise. After an impressive showing at the Club World Cup with Palmeiras, the 21-year-old right back is now being targeted by two contenders for the upcoming Serie A title: Napoli and Roma.
Giay, who appeared in four of Palmeiras’ five matches in the tournament before they were knocked out by Chelsea, has drawn attention from scouts in Italy. Reports from the Italian press indicate that both Napoli and Roma are monitoring him closely and may submit formal offers in the coming weeks.
Palmeiras, for its part, has made its stance clear: the club values Giay at $18 million for the full rights to his contract. Any serious negotiations will have to meet or approach that figure.
Back in Argentina, San Lorenzo is also watching the situation with interest. The Buenos Aires club retains 25% of Giay’s future transfer fee, meaning a sale at $18 million would earn them $4.5 million.
Roma is also pursuing another Palmeiras talent. Colombian midfielder Richard Ríos is reportedly close to joining the capital club for $25 million plus performance bonuses, beating out competition from Inter.
Since arriving at Palmeiras in mid-2024, Giay has made 36 appearances. While he has yet to score or assist, his consistency and defensive reliability have made him an attractive option for European clubs. He’s received three yellow cards and no red cards across 2,581 minutes of action.
