Mozambique faces a tough AFCON 2025 challenge in Group F alongside Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon and Gabon. However, head coach Chiquinho Conde remains defiant, insisting his team won’t be in Morocco just to participate.
“This proves our progress,” Conde said. “We’ve earned our place among Africa’s best.” Mozambique, returning after AFCON 2023, aims to surpass past performances, having never reached the knockout stage.
Conde pointed out that when talking about their opponents in Group F, the captain of Côte d'Ivoire failed to mention Mozambique. This gives him even more motivation. He went on, “We'll use it as fuel to prove ourselves in our opening game.”
Mozambique thrives when underappreciated, despite being the underdog. Conde said, “When no one expects us to succeed, we fight hardest.”
With determination and belief, the Mambas will seek to make history, starting with their crucial opener against Côte d’Ivoire in Marrakech.
