Mourinho has been punished for his comments directed at the referee

Roma's head coach Jose Mourinho has received disciplinary sanctions for his comments towards referee Matteo Marchenaro ahead of the Sassuolo vs. Roma match. In anticipation of the match, the Portuguese coach expressed doubt about the "competence and emotional stability" of the main referee.

Mourinho faced the possibility of a suspension for several matches for his remarks, but after providing explanations to the executive bodies of the Italian Football Federation and acknowledging his guilt, the punishment was limited to a monetary fine. The "Special One" has been fined 40,000 euros, with the coach and the club sharing the payment equally.

As a reminder, Roma won against Sassuolo with a score of 2-1, and their opponent finished the match with fewer players on the field.

Mourinho has been leading Roma since 2021 and secured the team's victory in the 2022 Conference League. His contract with Roma is set to expire at the end of the current season. Negotiations for a new agreement have already begun, but there are disagreements regarding the contract's duration.

In the current Serie A campaign, Roma occupies the fifth position, having gathered 25 points in 15 matches. On Sunday, December 17, the Wolves will face Bologna away.
