Mouin Chaâbani ambitious vision drives Berkane’s resurgence in domestic and African competitios
Moroccan team Renaissance Berkane has been rejuvenated by Tunisian strategist Mouin Chaâbani, who led them to a decisive 3-1 CAF Confederation Cup victory over Stellenbosch of South Africa. With six points from two games, Berkane leads Group B after the victory, securing their spot as early favorites for the championship.
Chaâbani, 43, is no stranger to continental glory, having guided Tunisian giants Esperance to back-to-back CAF Champions League titles in 2018 and 2019, defeating Al Ahly and Wydad Casablanca in successive finals.
Chaâbani has led a spectacular comeback since joining Renaissance Berkane in early 2024, leading the team to the top of the Moroccan Botola Pro with 27 points from 13 games, four points ahead of the closest rivals and an incredible ten points ahead of the defending champions Raja Casablanca.
Berkane has already defeated Wydad and Raja this season, demonstrating their tactical skill and tenacity under Chaâbani's direction. The team's goals on all fronts are reflected in the fact that it leads the Moroccan Excellence Cup rankings.
With a flawless record in continental competition, Berkane leads Group B in the CAF Confederation Cup. They now get ready for a crucial third-round matchup against Stade Malien, where Chaâbani hopes to win his third continental championship and Berkane his first since 2022.
Chaâbani’s transformative impact at Berkane signals a new era for the club, with domestic and continental silverware well within reach.
