Morocco Targets European Test Ahead of AFCON 2025
Morocco's head coach, Walid Regragui, is planning a friendly match against a European team in June 2025. This plan comes after Morocco successfully finished at the top of their AFCON 2025 qualifying group with a perfect score of 18 points, and since they are also hosting the tournament.
Reports from Morocco say that this friendly match will replace a canceled World Cup 2026 qualifier against Eritrea. This gives the Moroccan team, known as the Atlas Lions, a chance to prepare against strong opponents. Regragui wants to take advantage of the time when European teams are available, especially during the final stages of the UEFA Nations League.
The last time Morocco played a team from outside Africa was in March 2023, when they had a goalless draw against Peru. This upcoming match is expected to help Morocco become more competitive as they aim to show their strength in African football.
