48-year-old mixed martial artist André Mussi collapsed after a workout at a gym in Rio de Janeiro on October 22 and was rushed to the hospital, where he passed away.

Mussi competed in mixed martial arts for six years. Of his 16 fights, he claimed victory in 11.

The Brazilian fighter hung up his gloves in 2010 to focus on management and help young fighters develop their careers.

André was deeply involved in supporting up-and-coming fighters, opening his own training facility, Rush Academy, and working to bring prominent MMA figures to help train at the gym.

"He was an important part of modern MMA. He reformed the business model and helped turn the sport into a profession," said one of his friends, jiu-jitsu master Renato Velame, in tribute to Mussi.
