Minus 60 points! Manchester City could face an unprecedented Premier League punishment
Manchester City's financial scandal could result in one of the most devastating punishments in Premier League history.
Details: According to talkSPORT presenter Alan Brazil, two separate sources have told him that Manchester City could be handed a staggering 60-point deduction following the independent commission's verdict on the club's financial rule breaches. However, the journalist admitted that the information remains unconfirmed and could ultimately prove incorrect.
The most intriguing detail concerns the timing of the potential punishment. Brazil questioned whether such a massive deduction could be enforced during the current campaign, suggesting that it might instead take effect next season, in 2027/28.
Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has also suggested that Manchester City could face a deduction of between 50 and 60 points, alongside a financial penalty potentially reaching £50–60 million.
The situation follows an independent Premier League commission finding Manchester City guilty of serious financial violations spanning nine seasons, from 2009/10 to 2017/18. The club continues to deny wrongdoing and formally lodged an appeal on October 1. No final sporting sanction has been announced.
It's worth noting that Manchester City currently lead the Premier League with 15 points from five matches. Their next league fixture is scheduled for October 11 against Liverpool at Anfield.
