AC Milan has officially announced the return of central defender Matteo Gabbia from loan, where he played for Villarreal.

This decision was made by the Italian club due to a significant number of injuries in the central defense. In recent months, the team has lost Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw, Marco PellegriΡ‚Ρ‰, Pierre Kalulu, and Mattia Caldara.

Gabbia is a product of Milan's youth system. In the current season, he played 13 matches for Villarreal in various competitions: 7 in La Liga and 6 in the Europa League.

From 2019 to the summer of 2023, the 24-year-old defender played for Milan but was mainly a backup, appearing in 51 matches over four seasons in all competitions.

After 18 rounds, Milan currently occupies the third position in Serie A. Yesterday, Stefano Pioli's team convincingly defeated Cagliari (4:1) with an experimental lineup in the Round of 16 of the Coppa Italia.
