Mijaín López is the person of the day at the Olympics according to Dailysports
The latest competition day at the 2024 Olympics is coming to an end, and as is now customary, Dailysports has selected the Person of the Day.
Today, this honor goes to the incredible Cuban Greco-Roman wrestler Mijaín López, who became the Olympic champion in the 130 kg weight category. In the final bout, López defeated Chile's Yasmani Acosta.
At 41 years old, this legendary Cuban athlete has achieved his fifth consecutive gold medal! Mijaín López first became an Olympic champion at the 2008 Beijing Games, and has won gold at every Olympics since then.
Mijaín López is the first in the history of this sport to become a five-time Olympic champion. He is also the first athlete ever to win individual gold at five consecutive Summer Olympics.
A similar achievement is held by Dutch speed skating legend Ireen Wüst.
Today's bout marked the last of Mijaín López's illustrious career.
