Midfielder to stay with the team. Mourinho blocks Real Madrid transfer
José Mourinho has intervened in Fulham's transfer plans and blocked the move of Real Madrid midfielder Thiago Pitarch. The Portuguese manager is counting on the young talent and wants him to remain part of his squad.
Until recently, it was expected that Pitarch would follow in the footsteps of César Palacios and Gonzalo García and continue his career in London. The English club was hoping to sign a third Real Madrid player, but it now appears that negotiations will not result in a transfer.
According to AS, the transfer of the 19-year-old midfielder was stopped by Mourinho. The head coach sees Pitarch as a key reinforcement for his team and is unwilling to let him go.
The decision is also tied to the situation in midfield. After failed negotiations for the World Cup's best player, Mourinho has reconsidered his plans for the position. He now has Fede Valverde, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Eduardo Camavinga, and Thiago Pitarch at his disposal. Last season, Pitarch made 16 appearances for Real Madrid and contributed two assists.
As a reminder, Real Madrid underwent a major squad overhaul this summer. Ibrahima Konaté, Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries, Yangel Diomande, and Carlos Espi have all joined the club.
