Micah Richards explained Salah's dip in form against Newcastle
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is experiencing a challenging phase of the season, having played two unsuccessful matches in a row. His team suffered defeats against PSG in the Champions League and Newcastle in the League Cup final (1-2).
During these games, Mo was unable to perform on the pitch as he usually does. Former Manchester City defender and current football expert Micah Richards identified the reasons for Salah's form.
Details: According to the expert, the main reason is that Salah is observing Ramadan, which naturally affects his energy levels.
Quote: "It's important to remember that Salah is currently fasting. He doesn't eat or drink during daylight hours, which directly impacts his physical condition. It's normal for his energy level to be lower than usual. The mere fact that he steps onto the field and plays at such a level is already impressive," Richards stated in the podcast The Rest Is Football.
Additionally, the expert highlighted Liverpool's excessive reliance on their leader.
Quote: "This team relies too heavily on Mo. Everyone expects a miracle from him – a goal, a free-kick, a penalty. But sometimes, there's just no energy left," added Micah.
Liverpool's schedule is free of matches until April 2 due to the international break, giving Salah a chance to recuperate. By then, Ramadan will have ended, and the Egyptian might return to his usual form.
Reminder: For the first time in his Liverpool career, Salah did not attempt a shot and created no chances in a match where he played 90 minutes or more.
