Inter Miami's main star, Lionel Messi, did not feature in today's away MLS fixture against Charlotte.
Details: According to José Armando, the Inter Miami coaching staff decided to rest Lionel Messi, as well as his compatriot Rodrigo De Paul, in order to preserve their energy for the crucial stages of the season.
Messi's absence had a direct impact on the result: the match between Charlotte and Inter Miami ended in a goalless 0-0 draw. Without Messi's creativity and De Paul's work rate in midfield, the Florida side struggled to break down the opposition defense, dropping crucial points in the standings.
Missing the match against Charlotte has put his quest for a monumental milestone on pause. The Argentine could have reached the 900-goal mark in this game, but the decision to leave Leo out of the squad has postponed this historic achievement at least until the next match.
It's worth noting that Messi will have the chance to set this milestone in the upcoming match, scheduled for the night of March 19 in the CONCACAF Champions Cup against Nashville. Kick-off is set for 00:00 Central European Time.
Reminder: Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva could join Inter Miami – Messi has approved the transfer.
