The legendary Dutchman has come down hard on Otamendi, branding his World Cup trophy tattoo gesture as a childish provocation.
Details: 41-year-old former Netherlands midfielder Wesley Sneijder launched a scathing attack on 38-year-old Benfica and Argentina centre-back Nicolás Otamendi.
During a heated exchange with Vinícius Júnior, Benfica's captain lifted his shirt to point at a tattoo of the World Cup trophy he won with Argentina in 2022.
With this move, Otamendi was taunting Vini, highlighting that the Brazilian lacks such a prestigious accolade. However, in the eyes of former Real Madrid and Inter Milan star Wesley Sneijder, Otamendi's gesture was simply absurd:
"What Otamendi did was extremely childish. Is he alright in the head? He was literally losing 1-0.
And if I were Vinicius, I would have said: ‘Messi won that World Cup for you, you had nothing to do with it.’
And why does he do that to a Real player? Does he even realize how many Champions League titles Vinicius has won? And he’s showing him trophies?" Sneijder fired.
Reminder: Tensions refuse to ease. After the match, Benfica staff tried to enter Real’s dressing room
