Mercil Ngimbi Protests Club’s Refusal to Let Him Leave
In a daring move in his dispute with TP Mazembe, Mercil Ngimbi left training on Wednesday to voice his displeasure with his contract status. Despite a previous verbal arrangement that allowed him to depart for free, the club apparently blocked his exit, which has left the Congolese international disappointed.
Broken Promises and Rising Tensions
Since the previous season, Ngimbi, who was signed for $110,000, had been searching for a transfer. According to accounts, when a Moroccan team expressed interest, Mazembe's representatives first promised not to charge a fee. But when the agreement solidified, the club reversed course and demanded $500,000 to free him.
A Dramatic Protest
Ngimbi felt deceived and publicly expressed his annoyance by quitting training in the middle of a session and even taking off his shirt in a show of defiance. If no agreement is achieved, his response foreshadows a possible legal and contractual conflict.
What’s Next for Ngimbi and Mazembe?
He just has a year left on his deal, so things might get out of hand very fast. Mazembe now has to choose between reaching a compromise with the player or sticking to their expectations.
Ngimbi's future at TP Mazembe appears to be more uncertain than ever, that much is clear.
