McLaren hit with double disqualification at the Las Vegas Grand Prix. What's the reason?
After the Las Vegas Grand Prix, both McLaren drivers—Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri—were disqualified due to excessive wear on the control plank beneath their cars.
Details: Technical inspection revealed that the thickness of the control plank under the cars was less than the required 9 mm. Piastri’s measurements showed 8.88 mm at the front and 8.93 mm at the rear, with Norris posting identical figures. The measurement equipment has a margin of error of just 0.001 mm.
This situation could have a major impact on the Formula 1 championship battle. Because of the disqualification, both title-contending drivers left Vegas empty-handed, allowing Max Verstappen to close the gap in the drivers’ standings to just 24 points.
Reminder: Verstappen won the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
