Mbekezeli Mbokazi believes his time at Chicago Fire will benefit Bafana Bafana at the World Cup
Mbekezeli Mbokazi sees his time at Chicago Fire as crucial experience which could be invaluable for Bafana Bafana at the World Cup.
The former Orlando Pirates defender said the experience so far in the MLS is incomparable and quite vital for his international career, especially Bafana.
Mbokazi, who moved to the MLS last November, is expected to be part of Hugo Broos squad to play at the global showpiece next month for South Africa.
Broos announces his squad tomorrow.
"I’m happy to be in the World Cup and to play with the team," said Mbokazi in an interview with On Tap Sports Net.
“I think what’s going to help us as Bafana Bafana is that there is unity in the team and we help each other. As this is a big tournament, we are just looking forward to using whatever experience – I’m going to use my experience that I have gained here in MLS to help Bafana Bafana and bring whatever expertise I’ve gained in these couple of weeks.”
Mbokazi also feels the MLS is a step higher for his career and that the standard is more demanding than the Betway Premiership.
"In the beginning, the preseason was very hard,” said Mbokazi.
“I found that the style of play in South Africa is different from the style of play here in the U.S., but the experience I have gained here is very beneficial. I’m going to use that to help me in the World Cup.”
Bafana will open the spectacle with their opening match being against co-hosts Mexico on June 11.
