Maxwell Konadu Reveals Key Difference Between Ghana and South Africa Football

Veteran Ghanaian coach Maxwell Konadu has opened up about his recent experience with South Africa’s Black Leopards, drawing sharp comparisons between football in Ghana and South Africa.

Speaking to Akoma FM, Konadu said:

"A South African player grows up having almost everything a European player does — from good pitches to quality equipment and financial backing. That reduces their urgency to move abroad."

By contrast, Konadu praised Ghanaian players for their mental strength and unmatched determination: "Our boys grow up fighting for every opportunity. That hunger and desperation give them an edge."

South African Spell Ends, But No Regrets

Despite parting ways with Black Leopards after just 17 matches, Konadu sees the stint as a positive chapter.
The club climbed to second place early in the season, but following three consecutive home draws, both sides agreed to mutually part ways.

Now back in Ghana, the former Asante Kotoko boss and Black Stars assistant coach revealed: "I’m in talks with clubs abroad, but I’m not rushing. I’m looking for the right opportunity — one that aligns with my goals and values."

Konadu’s next move could once again take him outside Ghana — but only if the fit is right.
