Two people were killed and more than 500 detained during overnight riots in Paris.

Details: As Paris Saint-Germain celebrated their first-ever Champions League title, a wave of chaos swept through the French capital. Two people lost their lives: a 17-year-old teenager was fatally stabbed, and a man on a scooter was struck by a car. In addition, 491 people were detained in Paris, with the nationwide tally reaching 559.

During the celebrations, bus stops along the Champs-Élysées were smashed, and projectiles rained down on police officers trying to quell the unrest. Law enforcement responded with tear gas and water cannons, pushing back the surging crowd as thousands of supporters poured onto the boulevard.

Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau called for a zero-tolerance policy in maintaining order throughout the festivities:

“True PSG fans are savoring their team’s brilliant match. Meanwhile, barbarians have taken to the streets of Paris to commit crimes and provoke the police,” the minister wrote on Twitter.
