Martin O’Neill Speaks on Kelechi Iheanacho Contract Future After Match Winning Heroics
Celtic interim manager Martin O’Neill has opened up on the future of Kelechi Iheanacho following the striker’s impressive impact this season.
Iheanacho, who joined Celtic as a free agent after last summer’s transfer deadline, has been in fine form, recently scoring his third match-winning goal in the league. However, his current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, although the club holds an option to extend it by an additional year.
Speaking on the situation, O’Neill suggested that the forward’s future at the club could depend on his physical condition and preparation ahead of next season.
"If the club were to keep him, then it's really to do with a proper pre-season for him, a real proper pre-season," he said.
"I think he arrived at the last moment here, so he would have to do it, and I think that he would benefit greatly from that, where you're getting three or four weeks' work into him before the season started, which I think he needs.
