Marseille's sporting director puts an end to the Greenwood scandal

The 23-year-old forward is having a productive season with the French club, scoring 17 goals across all competitions. However, amidst Marseille's recent dip in form, reports of locker room disagreements have surfaced. It was claimed that former Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Adrien Rabiot allegedly approached Benatia demanding the exclusion of Greenwood and Luis Henrique from the squad.

Mehdi Benatia sharply rejected these accusations in an interview with La Provence. According to him, Højbjerg never made such requests. He added that Højbjerg is one of the most professional players in the team, as is Rabiot. Both, in Benatia's opinion, are focused solely on the club's success and securing a spot in the Champions League. The rumors, he believes, are spread by people who do not care about Marseille's future.

Despite Benatia's statement, the situation in the club remains challenging. Marseille has lost five of their last seven matches and risks missing out on the Champions League. Greenwood himself is also struggling — he has scored only one goal in the last five games and was benched in one of the matches.

The team's head coach Roberto De Zerbi expressed full support for the forward. He noted that Greenwood is a natural talent and thanked his parents. According to him, the coaching staff's task is to help the forward become a more versatile player. De Zerbi emphasized that he is always ready to support the player but can also push him when necessary. He wants Greenwood to become one of the greats in Velodrome's history.

The coach added that he believes in the Englishman's potential and hopes that the fans will remember him as one of the best players to have ever played for Marseille.
