French club Olympique Marseille are seriously considering activating the buy-back clause for academy graduate Simon Ngapandouetnbu, who currently plays for Montpellier.

Details: According to regional outlet La Provence, the special option allowing the 23-year-old Cameroonian goalkeeper to return remains valid until June 2027. Marseille's hierarchy see the talented shot-stopper as a direct replacement for Dutchman Jeffrey de Lange, whose performances between the posts have ceased to inspire unconditional confidence within the coaching staff.

The potential activation of the clause has been prompted by the goalkeeper's impressive progress away from the southern coast. In the current Ligue 2 campaign, Ngapandouetnbu leads all goalkeepers in the league in key save statistics and reliability metrics, proving that he is capable of performing consistently as a first-choice goalkeeper in top-level competitions.

It is worth noting that Simon Ngapandouetnbu had been part of Marseille's academy system since 2014, progressing from the youth teams to training with the senior squad before leaving in search of regular playing time. The goalkeeper remains a regular member of the Cameroon national team and was included in the squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, making a potential return to his home ground at the Velodrome a long-awaited move for both the club's hierarchy and its supporters.
