Marseille Eyes Morocco's Rising Star Under Mehdi Benatia's Direction
French press reports indicated that the French club Olympique de Marseille, headed by Mehdi Benatia, is interested in signing Moroccan midfielder Reda Belahyane during the upcoming winter transfer period, according to the Le10Sport website.
Belahyane, who is currently playing well for Hellas Verona in Italy's Serie A, has caught the attention of big clubs like Inter Milan and Marseille. Although there have been no official talks yet, Benatia has already contacted the 22-year-old, seeing him as a valuable addition to Marseille's midfield.
The Moroccan player, who is under contract with Verona until 2028, has had a good season so far, with 11 games showing off his defensive skills and ability to keep the ball. His good performances also got him a spot on the national team, where he played a short time against Central African Republic last month.
Belahyane is being pursued by a number of clubs ahead of the January transfer window, so Marseille will have difficulty signing him when the battle heats up.
