Maple Leafs have appointed a new captain, and he has already made history within the franchise
The NHL team Toronto Maple Leafs has made a significant change, appointing a new captain ahead of the upcoming season.
The club has officially announced that the "C" will now be worn by star forward Auston Matthews. He takes over from former captain John Tavares. Matthews is the 26th captain in the franchise's history and the first American to hold the captaincy for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Additionally, another historic milestone has been reached in the NHL: for the first time, a woman has been appointed as an assistant coach. The Seattle Kraken have hired Jessica Campbell for this role.
Additionally, on the first day of the free agency market, a historic NHL record was set. For the first time ever, contracts worth over $1 billion were signed in a single day, with a total of 160 transactions completed.
