Manqoba Mngqithi: Mamelodi Sundowns are playing Arthur Sales out of position as a striker as the player is highly creative to be playing upfront
Manqoba Mgnqith has advice for Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso.
Mngqithi, a former Sundown coach himself, is now heading the dugout at Golden Arrows an d he is fond of the Brazilians striker Arthur Sales.
Mngqithi was still at the Chloorkop-based side when Sales signed for the defending PSL champions and the coach believes he is being used wrongly as a striker.
“Arthur, I have always said I don’t think he is a striker. But I think he is a very creative offensive player, and, in that position, he creates a lot of assists, and he is always where it’s painful for the opponents,” Mngqithi said after the Carling Cup match against Orlando Pirates as he was in charge of the Carling All Stars who lost 2-0 to Pirates.
Mngqithi had a chance to reunite with Chilean midfielder Marcello Allende who was also part of the Carling All Stars for the game which took place at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Allende also arrived at Sundowns while Mngqithi was still part of the technical set-up. The coach expressed delight at seeing his protégés.
“No man, those are top players, technically their level is very different and tactically the awareness of Marcelo, he is probably one of the best midfielders in the country,” he said of Allende.
“I was very excited to see them again, and we reconnected because they are my boys.”
