Diana Law, the widow of Scottish football legend Denis Law, has shared the touching story of their battle with dementia, which her husband suffered from before his death.

In an interview with the Mirror as the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, Diana admitted:

'I never imagined our future would be like this. It's been a real test for both of us. When you make vows 'in sickness and in health', you don't think that one day they'll be tested.'

Diana told how she had to take on more responsibility in their life together. She stressed that they tried to remain a team despite the challenges:

'Denis doesn't remember the past. You live in the moment and don't think about the future. I didn't imagine our future would be like this, with dementia.'

Lowe himself, despite his illness, was open about his feelings. He acknowledged that dementia was a difficult experience, but expressed gratitude for the support he received from Diana and others:

“It proves that dementia can affect anyone, no matter who you are. I’ve been incredibly lucky to have had such a wonderful career in football.”

“Not many people have had the experience that I have had, including winning the World Cup! I’ve received so much love from the fans.”

Diana also noted that their story is a reminder that dementia can affect anyone, regardless of their achievements and background:

“Denis was an incredibly active and fit person. I never thought he would face this.”
