Manchester is blue. City defeated United in the Community Shield match

On August 10th, Manchester City and Manchester United faced off at London's Wembley Stadium for the first trophy of the new season, the FA Community Shield.

The first half was marked by intense competition with few dangerous moments. City came close to scoring in the 24th minute when young James McAtee hit the post after a mistake by Lisandro Martinez. United responded with a decent attack, but Marcus Rashford missed the target from a promising position, sending the ball wide of Ederson's goal.

At the start of the second half, Ten Hag's men managed to open the scoring, but a brilliant goal by Bruno Fernandes was rightly disallowed due to offside. Both teams displayed rather unremarkable football overall, with the first shot on target coming as late as the 69th minute. Rashford had another chance to score, but the post saved City after a great counter-attack.

The game was revitalized by Alejandro Garnacho, who came on as a substitute and scored the winning goal in the 82nd minute. The Argentine cut in from the wing and struck a brilliant shot with his left foot. However, City managed to equalize through Bernardo Silva, who had just come on a few minutes earlier.

The match ended 1-1 in regular time, and the winner was decided in a penalty shootout, where Guardiola's side emerged victorious.

Manchester City won the FA Community Shield for the first time since 2019, making it their seventh triumph in the club's history.
