The first quarterfinal match of the Club World Cup in football took place. The club Leon from Mexico faced off against Japan's Urawa.

In the first half, the Mexicans had more possession, but the Japanese were sharper in attack. However, neither team managed to score in the first 45 minutes. After the break, Urawa took control of the match, dominating possession and launching better attacks.

The fate of the match was sealed by a solitary goal. In the 78th minute, Alex Schalk, assisted by Jose Kante, put Urawa ahead on the scoreboard. In the 84th minute, Club Leon was reduced to ten men. Thus, the Japanese team held on to their slim advantage and secured victory.

Urawa advances to the semifinals of the Club World Cup, where they will face Manchester City. The match is scheduled for Tuesday, December 19.
