Manchester City is in the final stages of securing the ascent of Argentine sensation Claudio Echeverri from River Plate, with the deal estimated at £22 million.

The 17-year-old Echeverri stands as one of Argentina's most promising talents, prompting Pep Guardiola's team to act swiftly, securing his signature ahead of others. Earlier, they had also moved quickly to acquire Julian Alvarez, who also made the transition from River Plate.

Alvarez was similarly signed in January and joined the team six months later, in the summer of 2022. Julian seamlessly integrated into the squad, having played 77 matches and netted 29 goals thus far.

According to reports from Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the paperwork for the deal is currently being exchanged between the English and Argentine clubs and is ready for finalization.

However, it's noted that Guardiola won't immediately secure the youngster. Romano mentioned that Echeverri will continue playing for River Plate until December 2024.

The Argentine is set to sign a six-year contract, becoming another addition to the squad that achieved a treble last year.
