Manchester City has initiated intensive efforts to extend the contract with striker Erling Haaland.

According to TEAMtalk, the English club does not intend to include a release clause in the new agreement. The existing contract is valid until 2027 and includes clauses allowing Haaland to depart in the future for a predetermined fee. However, Manchester City is keen on eliminating these clauses and is proposing a substantial salary increase instead. Nevertheless, Haaland's camp is currently uninterested in this proposal.

It is also reported that the player himself has no plans to leave. However, his representatives are unwilling to abandon clauses that come into effect from 2025 onwards. Haaland wants assurance that he will have control over his future.

As a reminder, in May 2022, Manchester City announced the transfer of Haaland for £51.2 million. The transfer was completed on July 1, 2022. It was revealed that the player's contract includes a €150 million release clause, which will be applicable after two seasons, starting in 2025.

In the current season, Erling Haaland has played 18 matches for City, contributing 17 goals and four assists to his tally.
